Brock Lesnar Loses UFC Title to Cain Velasquez

In quite a turn of events (or maybe not to some,) Brock Lesnar was defeated in round 1 by ref stoppage by challenger Cain Velasquez.  When Lesnar first debuted in UFC, his loss to Frank Mir was looked at as due to inexperience, but Lesnar showed so much potential that everyone agreed he was going to be a force.  Since then Lesnar has won every one of his fights, including winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship from Randy Couture.  In his last fight, Lesnar was tested and nearly beaten by Shane Carwin, but Brock's comeback in the fight convinced even more people that Brock was a well rounded force that would be tough to beat.  Cain Velasquez was looked at as a solid challenger, being he, like Carwin, was also undefeated.  While Cain was looked at as a threat, the hype for Carwin as a threat was much more.  But tonight, Cain solidified his spot in MMA by destroying Brock Lesnar in a round 1 TKO, repeatedly punching Brock in the face.  Brock was bloody and beaten, and definitely lost some steam as an unbeatable monster.

A return match will be big money without a doubt, but the question is can Brock come back and take his title back, or has it been proven that Lesnar will not be as dominant in MMA as everyone thought.  A return to wrestling, whether it be WWE or TNA is possible at some point, especially if Brock performs like he did in his last 2 fights.  Brock has at least a couple of fights left, and even another big run if he can claim his title back, but the hype for Brock especially from wrestling fans took a huge hit with tonight's loss to the new UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez.

Brock Lesnar Submits Shane Carwin and Remains Champion at UFC 116

In a fight that without a doubt lived up to the hype, Brock Lesnar survived the onslaught of Shane Carwin and went on to choke Carwin out in round 2 of their fight at UFC 116. The hype for this fight has been huge, with Lesnar being out of action for just about a year, and Carwin destroying every opponent he's faced without even being out of the first round, this fight earned it's billing of "biggest fight in UFC history." Carwin's knockout power and the fact that he wears 5XL gloves compared to Brocks 4XL have been big factors that had many believing Carwin had Brock's number.

As the fight started, Carwin rocked Lesnar, taking control and pounding Brock's face until he bled. At some points in this fight it seemed like the fight was definitely on the verge of being stopped, as Brock covered up as Shane kept punching away. Brock survived and got back to his feet to end round 1, and after the round was over it was apparent that Carwin had punched himself out and his stamina was pretty shot. Brock attacked, got Carwin on the ground, and locked him into a head and arm choke that caused the tap out. Brock was humble in his victory this time, being thankful for being alive at this point. Carwin was also humble and showed respect for Brock.

Many fans finally cheered Brock, as he motioned to them showing that he proved he has a chin. Many people up until this fight were still saying Brock had no chin, and would go down to Carwin. Now that Brock has shown he has a chin and can take on a real challenge and come out victorious, Brock remains at the top of the MMA world and now may have gained more respect from the MMA community than he ever has before. Next up will be Brock defending against Cain Velasquez, which no doubt will split MMA fans once again, but will once again prove that Brock Lesnar is still the number 1 draw in all of MMA, and is cementing his legendary status with every fight.

Ken Shamrock Set to Face Bobby Lashley in MMA Fight

In a pretty shocking move, it's been announced that Roy Jones Jr.'s "March Badness" hybrid boxing and MMA show, that 2 former WWE stars will face off in an MMA match, as "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock will take on MMA newcomer Bobby Lashley. This is the very first time (to our knowledge) that 2 former WWE stars have faced off in MMA. Shamrock being a former WWE Intercontinental Champion, and Lashley most recently being the ECW Champion before leaving WWE. Lashley only recently made the transition from WWE to MMA, and easily won his MMA debut. Shamrock just fought a couple of weeks ago at the show "War Gods" which he promoted, and got his first win in a few years. Although Lashley is new to MMA, he may just be the favorite due to his size, skill, youth, etc. Shamrock is an MMA legend, but in his mid 40's, Lashley will be coming at him full force, maybe even more than Kimbo Slice would have in the scheduled Shamrock vs. Slice fight that ended up not happening. Dana White has said that he has no interest in Lashley coming to MMA, and doesn't think Brock Lesnar's success can be captured by another wrestler, but if Lashley scores a win over Shamrock, people will notice, and doors will be opened for Lashley, and he would no doubt be on to bigger and better things. It may be premature to think about now, but could a huge Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley showdown for the UFC Heavyweight title be happening in the future? Lashley's first big recognition will depend on this Shamrock fight at "March Badness" on March 21.

Brock Lesnar is the UFC Heavyweight Champion...But is He Being Taken Seriously Yet?

Brock Lesnar defeated UFC legend Randy Couture this past Saturday to capture the UFC Heavyweight Championship - with less than 5 MMA fights under his belt.

Ever since Lesnar entered the world of MMA the doubts have been numerous, with many people claiming it would only be a matter of time before Lesnar failed. Granted, he did lose his first UFC fight against Frank Mir (due to a rookie mistake, in a fight he controlled the majority of,) but Lesnar has since defeated the much more experienced Heath Herring, and now has beaten a UFC Hall of Famer in Couture. Lesnar has not only won fights, but has dominated in such an unstoppable manner, his fights are drawing major attention (and money) to UFC.

Of course Lesnar is not a guy who is cheered in any of his fights so far, as he hasn't, and probably never will break the "WWE Wrestler," since the WWE is where his name became famous, but Brock's huge win has opened the door for MMA fans and promoters to have no choice but to take qualified guys from the world of pro wrestling seriously. But even with the world title win, Lesnar is still new to the sport, and STILL has yet to be "accepted" by most as a serious MMA Star.

Lesnar beat Couture, but people will blame Randy being old as the reason Lesnar won. Brock is going to have to successfully defend his title against a wide variety of MMA names in order to gain the respect of the MMA industry. Up next for Lesnar will be the winner of the Interim Heavyweight Title fight between champion Antonio Nogueira and the man who defeated Lesnar, Frank Mir. Either fight with Lesnar would be another money fight and seemingly any future fight involving Lesnar garners interest from those who both love and hate him.

Some people may still think Lesnar will not be hugely successful in MMA aside from these first few wins, but no doubt Brock has made an impact, and the eyes of MMA are watching Brock Lesnar, who so far has proven he is "The Next Big Thing" for MMA, just like he was in WWE.

UFC 81: Brock Lesnar TAPS!

Round 1: Kurt Angle and The Undertaker were both shown on screen with name labels to the live and PPV audience as both fighters were in the cage before the introductions. Now they just showed "Stone Cold" Steve Austin with a beer in his hand. Crowd cheered big for Austin. Bruce Buffer announces, with great passion, "the former WWE superstar - Brock Lesnar!" Now Sable is shown on screen. And it's time for round one. Lesnar immediately takes Mir down and has half guard. Lesnar is throwing short punches with furry. Ref breaks the two - apparently Lesnar loses a point for hitting Mir in the back of the head. No warning before the point deduction. Restart on the feet and Lesnar drops Mir with a big punch to the face. Lesnar goes berzerk on the ground with punches. Mir slaps on an armbar, but Lesnar escapes. Lesnar stands up and Mir grabs a leg and locks in a leg lock - Lesnar taps out!

HUGE News for UFC: Brock Lesnar signed

During the UFC PPV tonight, former WWE champion and Wrestlemania XIX main eventer Brock Lesnar was seated in the front row. He was later interviewed by Joe Rogan and introduced as the latest signee for the Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Lesnar made his Mixed Martial Arts debut this past summer, defeating Min Soo Kim in only 1:09 of the first round on June 2, 2007 at the K-1 Dynamite USA show in Los Angeles. Lesnar easily took down Kim and pummeled him with strikes for the win. Lesnar, who is expected to fight in UFC's depleted heavyweight division (Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture announced he was leaving UFC last week) told Rogan he was "ready for war".

After a monster push that included several WWE title reigns and victories over The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Big Show and main eventing Wrestlemania in his first-ever appearance on the WWE's flagship PPV, Lesnar walked out of the company in 2004 to attempt an NFL career. When he was cut from the Minnesota Vikings training camp, Lesnar turned down an offer to play for the NFL's European division. He worked briefly for New Japan Pro Wrestling, including a short run as IWGP champion before starting to train in MMA.

Lesnar has not wrestled professionally in the United States since his WWE departure, but did have brief negotiations with TNA several months back. His last professional wrestling bout was a loss to his Wrestlemania XIX main event opponent Kurt Angle during the debut of Antonio Inoki's IGF promotion in Japan, unofficially losing the IWGP title he won in New Japan (and later vacated, although he kept possession of the title belt).

There was no announcement as to Lesnar's first UFC fight.
